Best of Belgium Beer-Cation - 8 Days Tour
The Best of Belgium Beer-Cation is designed by and for lovers of culture, history, beer, and gastronomy. We’ll start in Brussels with visits to some of the world’s most iconic sour beer producers, modern craft beer joints, and local taverns. We’ll leave the city for the medieval streets of Bruges, where we’ll take in the scenic canals, world class cuisine, and meet up with our local guide to learn more about the cities rich past. From there we will head onto Ghent, the often overlooked medieval city with a more modern flare. Our last full day will include a private van pickup so we can enjoy lunch at one of the world’s most famous and mythical beers en route back to Brussels for our final evening together.

Full Itinerary:
Day 1 – Checkin & Get Right to It
We’ll convene on the first day in the early afternoon, and waste no time getting to know each other as a group and enjoying world class and historic beers. We’ll start with a visit to one of the most iconic geuze producers in the world, and then wrap our day with dinner at one of Belgiums modern craft beer staples.
Day 2 – Culture, More Epic Geuze, Beer Fest
We’ll have a full day together after we sleep in a bit and grab breakfast on our own. We’ll take a short walking tour to get our bearings on the history and culture in Belgium before we grab a filling lunch. We’ll need the calories because we’ll be taking a quick trip out to the suburbs for more world class geuze. We’ll wrap the evening in time so that we can each enjoy the Belgium Beer Weekend in Grand Place at our own pace.
Day 3 – Bruges
We won’t recreate the classic film, but we’ll definitely take a few pages for inspiration. We’ll checkout of our hotel in Brussels and head to Bruges by train. The hour-ish journey will offer us time to contemplate the great beers and food that await us. Once in Bruges we’ll take some free time to stroll around, then join up for a oh so romantic boat tour, dinner, and nightcap at my favorite beer bar.
Day 4 -EXTRA NIGHT ADDED!
More time to explore and relax in Bruges
We’ll take this day to provide a bit more free time and to of course try more great beer. Here’s the plan: we’ll meet for lunch, take a great brewery tour with some of the best views in the city, visit one of the world’s oldest pubs, and part ways so you can enjoy the medieval streets and canals at your own pace. I’ll have plenty of recommendations prepared for you.
Day 5 – Train to Ghent
The train from Bruges to Ghent is short and offers pleasant country side views. You’ll have time in the morning to sleep in a bit and pack up, and we will head to our third city, Ghent. After checkin is sorted we’ll meet up with one of my local friends for nice blend of beer and history. We’ll work up an appetite for dinner together, and then a non-beer night cap that you won’t forget…
Day 6 – Time to Explore Ghent
We’ll take this day to provide a bit more free time and to of course try more great beer. There is some epic art and culture in the city, so I will provide you some time to take it in before we meet for early dinner at an amazing craft brewery with incredible food.
Day 7 – Private Van to Westvleteren & St Bernardus
We’ll say goodbye to beautiful Ghent but say hello to some of the most popular, well-loved, and rare beers in the world. Our private van will take us through the hop fields on the way to St. Sixtus/Westvleteren, where we will have lunch in the cafe and enjoy the beers. You’ll have the opportunity to buy more for later as well. Next we’ll make the short trip to St. Bernardus. From there, we enjoy the ride to Bruges for our last dinner together. But we’ll have to make one more beer stop along the way 🙂
Day 8 – Farewell Breakfast & Checkout
We made it! We’ll enjoy one last meal together, but this time breakfast. I’ll be happy to offer suggestions for where to travel next and other sights to take in if you plan to extend your stay in Belgium.
You should expect to walk 10,000-20,000 steps a day on average. Free time and rest are built into the itinerary, but there is a lot to cover, and much of it will be by foot.
Pack smart. Public transit & trains are the best ways to see a country. We’ll take in the sights & enjoy the world class train travel that Europe is known for. You will be expected to be able to carry your own luggage.
Our 2023 Belgian Beer-Cation was a blast! George did all the homework so we could simply relax and enjoy all the wonderful beer… The breweries we visited were top of class – many of the beers we tried are often listed as a must include for a Desert Island 6-Pack.
Rating: 5 out of 5.
This was my first trip to Belgium and first real foray into Belgium beers. My experience could not have been better. The lodging locations were excellent… George found terrific places to eat and of course the beer was amazing. Highly recommend this tour and will consider doing it again in the future. Thanks again George for making this a wonderful adventure.

I am available to offer tips and tricks for finding, tracking, and manipulating the travel options. We can schedule 15 minute travel planning sessions.
It is highly recommended that you arrange to fly 2-3 days prior to our meeting day. You’ll appreciate the extra time to acclimate to the time zone, and delays and cancelations are part of modern travel.
I will provide details for our first and last hotel stays so that you can book your extra time before or after our time together accordingly.
